I love venturing out to see what I can of the lingerie world as and when and I was fortunate enough to squeeze in some time to go and see Angela Friedman at her pop up in Mayfair, 50 Brook Street, Mayfair W1K 5DR.
It was an intimate little affair just opposite Claridges so bathed in Christmas illuminations was this lovely little building housing a small group of independent designers, all flaunting their delightful wares.
I’ve been fortunate enough to work with Angela this year so it was the perfect opportunity to put a face to the name. She is a quaint and beautiful woman not only brimming with a knack for lingerie but also an enthusiasm for sharing her knowledge. As soon as we started talking her ambitions stemming from her oh so wonderful corset lacing video had me hooked.
It is here if you are interested and I for one am all up for more things like this because as normal people, we need to know! https://angelafriedman.com/blogs/news/how-to-put-on-a-corset
The new English Garden collection was on show at the pop up and I got to try on my favourite set, Viola, from the range. English Garden is absolutely beautiful, full of striking embroideries and rich colours that are just delectable and so much so in person especially being able to see the Camellia set next to the Ambrosia robe which would have been a killer combination!
There we also some of Angela Friedmans absolute staples, like Dentelle.
One thing that really concretes me as an advocate of Angela Friedman is the brand holds some really stunning classic pieces that not only tick the boxes for the basics but make them their own. The range of loungewear, corsets and basic colourway options really cement their style in a timeless manner. I’m going to mention the Ambrosia robe because it really was gorgeous to behold!
I really would love to attend more pop up events because honestly, shopping in person at an independent brand is such an experience when it comes to luxury lingerie. Getting to see, feel and even try on pieces that you like really helps you affirm your choices, expand what you might not have initially thought is for you and also get some expert advice from the person/s who know that product best! Who knows, in seeing garments for yourself you may even be swayed into something unexpected.
This is especially true for products that are a price point. When expendable income is not exactly bountiful being able to go to a pop up where you are able to weigh up that possible spending is paramount. I am 100% putting my savings towards Dentelle. When I looked at it online I knew I liked it and that it was possibly something I wanted but having the opportunity to wear it and appreciate the absolutely stunning lace in person has tipped my liking into loving. Dentelle, you will be mine in time.
I had a wonderful time. Thank you Angela, for allowing me time in your little pop up, for the pleasant lingerie and cat conversation and of course, allowing me the honour of sauntering about in your space in some of your gorgeous garments. It was a pleasure!
